{Reclaimed Lumber Turned Chalkboard} & announcing a giveaway!!

I LOVE old wood – and if it has old paint even better!  That’s why whenever I come across a scrap of old wood I save it.  Santi gets pretty irritated with my old spider filled wood piles, but all I see is potential :)

I really needed a chore chart for the kids that was nice and big.  So I decided to actually use some of the scraps that I cant throw away.

The green strips are from my pantry door that I had to cut down to size and the weathered wood one is from the casing of an old door.

I cut them up to make a frame, then used a piece of fiberboard that I painted chalkboard on.  The fiberboard was attached to the back of the frame using staples.

To hang all of my old windows and doors I love using the hangman hook – about $10 for a big one at lowes – and it can hold up to 200 lbs.

There is a metal strip that attaches to the wall and one to the piece that you are hanging.  Each metal strip has a little angle on it and they hook into each other.  It also has a little level built in to it – some people are so smart.

I decided to attach my chalkboard to the back door – it’s the only spot where I had a big enough wall and a spot where the kids couldn’t miss it, I want this thing in their face!  With the door opening all the time, we also screwed the board in at the bottom so it was good and secure and wouldn’t bang around.

And after it was all hung…

I love the character of the old wood, makes me happy :)

I also loved that I had enough to make the 2 sides the same and then the top and bottom the same.  I love the look of the mixed woods also.

Aren’t 7 year old drawings sweet :)

So there’s my chalkboard, a big huge one that the kids cant miss!  No more excuses that they cant find their chore lists!  The chalk markers are from Michaels – I really like how the chalk stays put and wont rub off, plus the colors are fun :)
